About
My work explores relationships between natural and abstract forms and colours. Wood is the primary focus and medium but I sometimes use other materials too.

As an undergrad, I focused mainly on ceramic and mixed-media sculpture.
After that, I studied art history and ended up with a PhD on German Expressionism and other art from the early 20th Century, and have since published articles and books on modernist art.

From 1993 I taught fine art at Cardiff School of Art, focusing on art theory and studio practice (mainly photography, which I've exhibited internationally). More recently, I started working with wood and stopped teaching so I could explore ways of bringing photography, art history and theory together to feed into the making of one-off pieces of woodwork and sculpture. I work in a shared workshop here in Cowbridge, South Wales.
